Our Favorite Marketing Campaigns

Written by Ema Caballero | 15 Feb

Advertising has the ability to transport the viewer to another place and time. It's no secret that some campaigns have successfully transformed small companies into industry giants.

Capturing the attention of millions of viewers is hard when there is so much competition across the world. We’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite advertising commercial campaigns. These commercials have made us laugh, consider new products, and some have even left their mark across generations.

Dos Equis- Most Interesting Man in the World

People across the country were first introduced to Dos Equis’ “Most Interesting Man in the World” in 2006. Oozing charisma and confidence, this man convinced consumers that drinking a mass-produced beer, from a company that had experienced a significant decrease in sales, was not only a good idea- it was the best choice. A decade after these hilarious commercials debuted, “The Most Interesting Man” took a one-way journey to Mars on a rocket. “His only regret is not knowing what regret feels like”

Apple- Get a Mac

Named the best advertising campaign of the 2000’s by Adweek, Apple’s “Get a Mac” campaign brought the tech world to viewers’ televisions. A Mac and a PC were played by two men having witty banter back and forth about the benefits of buying either. Unfortunately for PC, Mac was cooler, younger and the clear winner- and consumers agreed. The ads were so popular, over 60 TV commercials aired and were dubbed in Spanish, German, Italian, and French. Apple saw a market share growth of 42% and record sales in the 3-year period the ads ran.

Nike- Just Do It

A marketing campaign built on the intensity and drive of athletics, “Just Do It” is one of the most successful campaigns of all time. Coined in 1988, the campaign was credited with not only saving the potentially doomed Nike company, but also reinvigorating it and growing its target audience to include not only elite male athletes, but the fitness community as a whole. “Just Do It” transcended the lifetime of a typical slogan and went on to receive the great honor of being placed in the Smithsonian Museum as one of the top five advertising slogans of the 20th century.

Red Bull- “Gives You Wings”

Red Bull has been incredibly successful marketing themselves to consumers around the world as an exciting brand often associated with extreme sports. Red Bull’s success has been astronomical for a relatively young company. Their slogan, “Gives You Wings”, was also the theme of their popular television commercials. These commercials would depict cartoon characters growing wings and flying away thanks to the incredible power of the Red Bull energy drink. However in 2014, the company was forced to pay out over $13 million dollars after a lawsuit was filed due to the drink never actually giving a customer real wings.

De Beers- A Diamond is Forever

“A Diamond is Forever”- did you know that was a slogan for a company? This advertising campaign may just have had one of the most lasting effects ever! De Beers is in the diamond business and arguably created the “need” for diamonds and engagement rings. After the Great Depression in 1948, the company launched an advertising campaign with the now-famous slogan “A Diamond is Forever”. The slogan was so effective for the diamond industry that by 1950, diamond sales in the United States had increased by 55 percent! It is still used by De Beers in its advertising.

Discount Tire- “Thank You”

This campaign is record-breaking! It’s hard to believe that this commercial has been running since 1975, but it’s true! Discount Tire released the classic commercial 43 years ago and it still plays across the United States. Lasting just over 10 seconds in length, this commercial has found a sweet spot of nostalgia for viewers.
